Nostalgia: Here It Comes

Nostalgia: Here It Comes

It’s that time of year again folks. Christmas. holidays, home, shopping, worrying about your bank account, getting time off, weather predictions, packing, did I get the right gift, where do I get the right gift? Remember when?

Sugar plums are not dancing in my head, these things are.

Life has changed for me and I mean drastically. Once upon a time, I would wait for the Christmas Sprit to get hold of me, then go to the mall and listen to Christmas music and I would feel “in the mood”. Not any more. Now I go upstairs and boot up my laptop and Google. Yes, I admit it freely. I am one of the reasons why Sears, J.C.Penney and others are closing. The guilt is washing over me as I type. The demise of our Christmas mall shopping because of….wait for it…the Internet.

Is this a good or a bad thing? Both. I cannot try on shoes over the Internet, or clothing. I cannot feel or smell something. I miss the mall!! Did I really say that? Yes, I did.

The dilemma:    I don’t want the stores to close.

The solution:   I will go to the mall. I will shop the old  fashioned way. I will make the effort. I will stand in line the week after the holiday for an hour to return unwanted items.

After all, this is business and business boosts the economy and a boosted economy creates jobs and puts food on the table.

Sometimes the old ways are not only nostalgic, but pretty good.
